THE MECHANIC AND THE BEAUTIFUL CAR

Based on the fable The cobbler and the financier by Jean de La Fontaine

At the village garage, Maxime the mechanic

Had the reputation of a true magician.

Everyone praised his skill

To troubleshoot any engine,

So that, from all over the country,

One brought him his motorcycle, his car or his tractor.

Without doubt, Maxime loved mechanics and beautiful cars,

But surely not so much as his companion, the pretty Margot

Who, on her side, excelled in nursing.

The lovebirds loved each other dearly, each of the other being very proud.

One evening, returning home, Maxime fell

Seeing, parked in front of their house, a superb convertible.

His surprise that such a car was in his neighborhood

Was equal only to the one given to him by his beloved

By responding to his: “Did you see the car downstairs? She is great ! “.

With a happy “It’s my present for your birthday”

Waving in front of his nose,

The car document and the key ring.

Although very pleased with this intention,

Our mechanic could not hide his concern

That the expense was beyond their means.

But Margot explained that a patient who liked her,

Learning Maxime’s taste for beautiful bodywork,

She had donated this car inherited from her late husband.

Straight away, here they are gone, the wind in their hair,

For a romantic stroll.

The euphoria was short-lived, however.

Soon they no longer dared to go out in the street because of the gossip

That people, full of jealousy, did behind their backs.

They ignored them until the grocer said casually to Margot:

“I saw your husband very well accompanied, yesterday,

He was passing in his cabriolet with a pretty passenger. »

Margot made a scene with Maxime who, despite his explanations

About a client he had to accompany

Failed to remove completely the suspicion

Treacherously insinuated into the mind of his other half.

But, as we have said, he was not a man to prefer a car

Even if it was convertible, in the beautiful eyes of his Margot.

He called back the one to whom they had sold their old Peugeot

To take it back in exchange for the cursed cabriolet.

Thanks to this, Margot saw how much he loved her,

And so they could live happily,

With the children they had very many.
